A Personal Odyssey of Self-Love

I haven’t been able to fully put my sentiments or the words together as I’d like. I grew up always wanting my mom’s love, but I never knew how to express my needs. She didn’t know how to give me love in a way that I would receive it. I spent half my life missing this key piece and not knowing it.

I’ve learned how to:

Nurture myself in moments of distress when I feel unworthy.

Tell myself I’m lovable when I feel abandoned.

Speak to myself compassionately when I’m not okay.

Hold myself fervently when I feel unsafe.

Practice forgiveness when I’m angry or resentful.

Cry when I feel hopeless.

Breathe when I feel despair.

Hug my dog when I feel alone.

Even when it’s scary, even when all of our strength seems gone, we have to keep picking ourselves back up and moving forward because whatever we’re battling in the moment, it will pass, and we will make it through.
